Mi homelab tiene homelab, y ninguno dice "dedicado" cuando no lo es. If my closet is more honest than a datacenter, something's wrong.
3 Years Stuck With Contabo – Here's What Actually Happened
My vps cheaper than my coffee and I know it's a vps. That's the point. Honesty in pricing and product.
WireGuard everything, trust no LAN. Also trust no host that won't show you dmesg.
I'm late to this but has anyone mentioned OVH's SoYouStart? Real servers, real prices, French law behind the contract. Not perfect but at least it's a contract with a real thing.
SoYouStart is a good mention. They are explicit about what generation of hardware, what CPU model, how much RAM. No mystery. This is how it should work.
OVH's own cloud is a different story though. They had that 2021 fire in Strasbourg and everyone learned their "cloud" was just VMs on servers in one building. Real cloud needs more than one site.
Rotterdam. That fire was a good lesson in topology. Real cloud is distributed by design. Real dedicated is in one place but it's real. Fake dedicated is the worst of both: single point of failure plus abstraction.
Estonia. We have a good view of Russian transit and Western transit. I run dual-homed anything that matters. Single datacenter "dedicated" that turns out to be a VM? That's not even single point of failure, that's illusion of point. I used https://bgp.tools to check their actual routing.
Illusion of point. I'm stealing that.
Back to the original question: three years with Contabo, zero downtime. Is that even possible on their network?
