Estonia. Language theft is real. "Cloud" meant something specific once. "Dedicated" meant physical. Now they're just sounds that make money.

I deleted my database thinking it was the old backup dir. Total self-own. Opened ticket #441092 just to ask if they had any offsite snapshot I didnt know about. Figured they'd laugh or close it. I run my own validator in Tallinn just to not trust RIR infrastructure. Routinator + RTR to bird. It is not hard, 2GB RAM, done.

Estonia. We have a good view of Russian transit and Western transit. I run dual-homed anything that matters. Single datacenter "dedicated" that turns out to be a VM? That's not even single point of failure, that's illusion of point. I used https://bgp.tools to check their actual routing.

On the auction servers, yes. Real Samsung PM883, real Intel S4510. On the "cloud" obviously not, and I haven't tested their new "dedicated" tier that replaced some of the old SX lines.

Good point. I had an Ampere box at Hetzner's Nuremberg location, real machine, you could feel the weight. Their x86 "dedicated" line needs more scrutiny though.

The virtio NIC thing is real. I had a "dedicated" box in Tallinn once where ethtool showed driver: virtio_net. Called them on it, they said "it's dedicated resources on shared hardware." Which is just VPS with a longer invoice.

Tallinn perspective: I use Hetzner's free monitoring for my instances in Nuremberg and Helsinki. External, simple, no traffic generated by me. The ping loop described here is a classic failure mode. I have seen it twice in consulting.
