What about RackNerd? They had cheap JP deals.

They don't have JP datacenter. Closest is LA or San Jose. Jackdeal1993 mentioned "RackNerd JP" earlier but that's wrong, they don't exist. Maybe he meant someone else.

My mistake, I meant a JP proxy project using RackNerd LA. Not a JP location. Sorry for confusion.

So to summarize for lurkers: under $5, Tokyo or SG, current best options are Vultr SG $4.20 or Contabo JP €4.99. Hetzner SG €4.51 if you need bandwidth. Correct?

#35

That's my read, yeah. Vultr SG if CPU matters, Contabo JP if absolute lowest latency to Kanto and you don't mind old Xeon.

Does Vultr bill in USD? With exchange rate fluctuations that's annoying for EU people.

#37

Yes Vultr bills USD. We bill EUR but our SG node is still USD converted. Exchange pain is real.

I eat the forex on Vultr Toronto, it's fine until it's not. 2022 was brutal. Not relevant to kenji3 in Osaka but EU/CA people factor it in.

Back to the Tokyo vs SG question: has anyone tested Oracle Cloud free tier SG? Always free 1GB ARM, but you need to stay under limits and they can terminate anytime. Not production worthy.

Oracle free tier is a hobby project minefield. Good for learning, terrible for clients. Would not recommend for anything kenji3 described.
