I tested this last month. Route to JP is IIJ, 35ms to Tokyo. Disk slower than Vultr, around 900 MB/s. CPU is older Intel, Geekbench 6 single around 1600. Fine but not exciting. Bandwidth 20TB included tho, which beats Vultr's 1TB if you push data.

20TB is huge for static sites. Most people here won't touch it. But if kenji3's API serves images or something, worth considering.

Static sites plus tiny API, 1TB is plenty. Hetzner SG is good to know about though.

What about UpCloud? They have SG and Tokyo, hourly billing, custom plans. Not the cheapest but very consistent performance.

UpCloud is $5/mo minimum for 1GB in SG, $7 in Tokyo. Good product but outside kenji3's budget. Also their Tokyo is NTT like everyone else, no routing advantage.

I run UpCloud Helsinki, very stable. Agree it's not cheap APAC. Different segment.

Has anyone mentioned Linode? They have Tokyo and Singapore, $5/1GB. Akamai network now, routing should be good.

Akamai bought them, prices went up, performance stayed flat. Their $5 plan is shared CPU, Vultr's $4.20 is shared too but faster silicon. Linode Tokyo is fine, just not exciting for the price anymore.

DigitalOcean SG is $6/1GB now, used to be $5. Inflation hits VPS too I guess.

DO raised prices last year. Their $6 gets you less disk than Vultr $4.20 too. Hard to recommend unless you need their managed extras.
