Black Friday 2025 deals — what did you actually buy?

Bella you are RIGHT, backup is very important.

I buy the RackNerd 8GB for $24/yr, is very good. We make a test with yabs (https://github.com/masonr/yet-another-bench-script) and the result is 150k, very nice.

Also I get the Hostinger domain for my project,.com.br is expensive so.fr is okay

The network to São Paulo is 89ms, not perfect but for this price, we accept.

Who else get RackNerd? Very fast sell out!

ping so high I wave back

Ah, the domain pricing, always a mystery. Hosting is the same.

I buy from CloudCone, the storage VPS, 500GB for 18$/yr. For backups, yes? The network to Amsterdam, 12ms, very elegant.

Before I forget: GreenCloudVPS, always sold out, always. I try at 00:00 CET, nothing. The hype is too much, I think.

I apologize for any inconvenience my observation may cause.

Let us consider the environmental impact of these purchases. @Carl mentioned 0.6W per gigabyte idle, which is commendable. However, I am concerned that many of these budget offerings may utilize older hardware with less favorable efficiency ratings.

I purchased nothing this Black Friday. My existing infrastructure at KnownHost suffices for my modest requirements, and I did not wish to contribute to unnecessary e-waste. Please forgive me if this perspective seems unwelcome.

As far as I know, ICMP-based measurements are not sufficient for production evaluation, a point pieter_rtm raised correctly.

My haul is limited:

  • Contabo 4GB KVM in Nuremberg
  • Additional IPv4 subnet, /29

The provider's GDPR compliance documentation is publicly available and audited, which matters for my use case. I did not observe any promotional pricing that would justify impulse purchases elsewhere.

Has anyone verified whether these budget hosts process deletion requests within the statutory 30-day window?

In my country, power cost is high. So efficiency matters.

I buy HostHatch 2GB, $14/yr. Idle power not stated. I ask support, no answer yet.

Question: anyone test actual wattage on Time4VPS or InterServer? Spec sheet not enough.

Also, 42ms to SG from minhdock location seems wrong. What traceroute show?

Sir, very nice thread, thank you very much

I made VPS last month, so this Black Friday I only buy domain from Hostinger. $9.99 for.fr, very good price.

I check my InterServer, ping to Los Angeles 35ms, very nice. But routing go through Hong Kong first, little strange.

Before I run anything, I read about reykjavik_doc from moebig. Very scary, thank you for warning.

traffic worse than my packet loss

1. This thread is excellent
2. My purchases:
2. A) Vultr — FAILED (sold out in 4 minutes)
2. B) Time4VPS 2GB — SUCCESS ($12/yr)
2. C) Hetzner storage — SUCCESS (backup bucket, 500GB, €4/mo)
3. Observations:
3. I) Network quality varies wildly
3. Ii) Support response time: GreenCloudVPS best, RackNerd acceptable
3. Iii) Invoice PDF formatting: Hostinger worst
4. Regrets:
4. A) None yet
4. B) But I did not test restore as @bellaauc suggested
5. Next steps:
5. 1) Run yabs tonight
5. 2) Configure offsite replication

Cara, this black friday is crazy!!!

Kkkkkk everyone buys everything and the GreenCloudVPS sold out in 2 minutes, I knew that!!!

I got the InterServer 4GB like moebig, 45$/yr, going to host my minecraft server for the kids

The ping to brazil is 180ms, is bad but the price fixes that in my heart kkkkk

Thank you sir JokoNord for the routing info, very nice bro

chill infrastructure for chill people 🦫

¡jajaja! Is very funny to see everyone buying the InterServer, I try too but is sold out!!! ¿why nobody talk about the KnownHost 1GB for 8$/yr? Is very cheap!!!

I delete my other post, too long. Here is short: I buy KnownHost for my p2p seedbox, network is good to Amsterdam. 800MB/s in torrent. Jajaja not bad for "cheap" VPS!!!

But the disk is very slow, 50MB/s. For p2p is ok, for database is very bad. ¿anyone try the Leaseweb instead? EOF

Oh my, @pablowild, a seedbox with no backup plan? That's a heart attack waiting to happen!

Did you test your restore? No? Then you don't have a backup, dear.

My Black Friday haul:

  • Hetzner 1TB — $36/yr (follows 3-2-1, offsite tick!)
  • CloudCone 500GB — $18/yr (second copy, different provider)
  • Hostinger.com — $6.99 (for the restore documentation site)

Remember: 3 copies, 2 media, 1 offsite. Test your restores monthly. I learned the hard way in 2019.

3-2-1 or you're already dead
