This is proper. Physical separation. I tell my friend in Prague, he now have copy in Hetzner Falkenstein and copy on tape in bank vault.
Network boot is nice but you need the data somewhere. The ether does not store your bits.

How much you paying for egress? I looked at B2 but the download fees scare me for emergency restore. HostHatch storage VPS in Singapore is my "warm" backup now, ping under 15ms from my clients.
Not perfect but restore test takes 20 minutes, not 20 hours.

B2 egress is free up to 3x your stored data per month, then $0.01/GB. For emergency restore you are probably fine unless you store 10TB and need to pull 30TB.
I am more worried about their competitors. Wasabi has no egress but 90-day minimum. Storj is interesting but too new for my blood.
Overselling angle: OVH public cloud was oversold to hell in SBG. You could feel it in the disk IO. Fire was almost a relief for some workloads.
Wah lau eh, this one dark lah. But true also. My OVH instance before fire, disk write like 2MB/s only. After migrate to RackNerd (https://www.racknerd.com), same price tier, 10x faster. Maybe the fire did me favor also.
Still feel bad for Izmir friend though. 3 years client backup gone, sibei jialat.
Following this thread. I was about to buy OVH for a project in Warsaw. Now I am reading about Limburg instead. Same country basically but maybe not same risk?
Limburg is Germany my friend, Warsaw is Poland. Same country? No.
But yes OVH have both. I use neither. Bangkok to Europe ping is bad anyway, I use HostHatch Hong Kong or Singapore.
I stayed with OVH. SBG2 loss was total for me but I had offsite backups to AWS Glacier. Took 3 days to restore. Business survived. Price is still unbeatable for what I need.
The bitterness is about the communication during the fire, not the fire itself. They tweeted like everything was fine for 6 hours.

Bringing snacks to this bitter party. I was never on OVH, I am a Hetzner person from way back. But I watched the fire from New Jersey and what struck me was how many people learned about actual redundancy that week.
Also how many people learned that "cloud" is just a computer in a building that can burn.
Hetzner had their own fire risk no? Falkenstein and Nuremberg both in Germany, not exactly spread out. I use them for compute but backups go to Wasabi eu-central-1 — https://www.backblaze.com/cloud-storage is what I used before.
Single region within EU is still single region. GDPR makes true geographic spread harder than Americans think.
