Sure, but talent without hardware is just consulting. Ecuador needs actual racks somewhere. Contabo and InterServer both have presence in LATAM edge zones, though neither takes XMR last I checked. Hetzner used to invoice in crypto but they pivoted to enterprise audit trails.

I still think they fold by month 9. Sovereign cloud is a resume item for politicians, not an engineering commitment.

37 days and nobody mentioned the actual vendors. Has anyone seen a tender doc yet? Last sovereign cloud I watched go live was on KnownHost gear with GreenCloudVPS doing the orchestration layer. Same playbook everywhere, flag-waving until the SOW hits the table.

Feels optimistic to me, I'd guess 4. I was looking at Contabo's pricing for a similar project last year and the gap between "sovereign" and "functional" is brutal. You either pay 3x for local talent or you hire abroad and defeat the whole point. Also @emalite what does that even mean

83 days and nobody mentions the actual providers. Ecuador will probably contract KnownHost or GreenCloudVPS through a local reseller, same as every other "sovereign" project in the region. The XMR angle is a red herring—governments don't pay with privacy coins because they need audit trails for procurement law, not because they love AWS.

We're past that window now—anyone heard an update? My money is on a quiet "partnership" with one of the big western stacks, probably framed as "sovereign adjacency" or some marketing fluff. The talent pipeline just isn't there for true self-hosting at government scale.

Still waiting on that popcorn, 140 days later. Anyone heard if they even picked a provider yet, or did the whole thing fold into one of the usual suspects like GreenCloudVPS or InterServer?

Did anyone actually see specs on this? I was looking at Vultr's sovereign region whitepaper last month and the compliance requirements alone are brutal. Ecuador would need local staff with serious VMware or OpenStack chops just to pass audit.

More like 14 months and they'll call it "disaster recovery" but yeah same outcome. The XMR angle is funny though.

You were generous. My bet is they went with InterServer or GreenCloudVPS through a local shell company and called it sovereign because the invoice is in Spanish. The talent pool thing

355 days and I still owe someone a beer on this one. Ecuador did not make it to 8 months—more like 14 before the "sovereign" branding quietly turned into a Contabo + InterServer reseller arrangement with a local front company. Same theater, longer runtime.

This is the part that stung. They had the flag, they had the press conference, they did not have anyone who could keep Ceph running through a rainy season. Sovereign means you also sovereignly fix the 3 AM page.

Did anyone ever track whether the XMR angle got any traction with other LATAM "soberania digital" projects? Or did they all go the same reseller-wrapped-in-a-flag route.
