Five active. Three for work stuff on AWS, two personal on DigitalOcean and Linode.
Work pays for theirs so I don't count them in my head, but my credit card sees all five.

I had eight at peak. Down to four now. The ones I killed were all "temporary" experiments from 2021 that I was still paying for.
Check your billing, people. Temporary is the most expensive word in hosting.

Three providers but all ARM: Oracle Cloud free tier, Hetzner ARM, and a dedicated Ampere at Packet.com before they became Equinix Metal.
Same architecture everywhere means my Ansible doesn't care which provider. One playbook, three targets, zero x86 surprises.

Fair point. I consolidated to three now: Hetzner for EU, Vultr for US, one local for latency.
Three is manageable. Six was because I kept chasing deals.
This thread made me check my billing. Seven active. I thought I had five.
Two were annual pay so I forgot them. Thanks I hate it.

Three is one more than two.
With two you run active-active or active-passive and you know the failover path. With three you start making decisions under pressure about which backup to promote.
Decision fatigue is real in incident response.

I look after client boxes across nine providers. Not my choice, inherited from previous admin.
My advice: if you must multi-provider, standardize on one OS image and one panel. I use Debian everywhere and either Keyhelp or direct SSH. Mixing Ubuntu, Alma, and CentOS across providers was the real nightmare.

Two. Hetzner for everything, AWS S3 for backups only.
S3 isn't a VPS so I don't count it. Some people would.
