You can't really "convert" without signing an RSA, which means starting to pay. I'm keeping it legacy for now, got the /22 for ongoing costs of zero, I'll take that.
How I recovered a /22 from ARIN with zero paperwork
Portland, small biz owner here. I understood maybe half of this thread but the "zero ongoing costs" part I got. Following.
That's the dream. In Lyon we pay through the nose for RIPE, and legacy recovery doesn't really exist the same way.
Pardon my French, but RIPE would rather die than give space back without court orders.
Vrai. Le self-hosting c'est la vie mais avec RIPE c'est la vie chère.
RIPE's recovery process is basically "prove you never stopped needing it or go away." ARIN's relative generosity here is notable.
May. I was right. Policy 2024-7 passed in May.
Yeah yeah I was close tho lol
Still lucky timing for tomchan
Not luck. Pre-policy window. If tomchan started in January and got approval in June, that's exactly the gap.
Started the ticket in February. First response March, approval June. So yes, squeezed through.
This timing discussion is useful. Does anyone have a link to the actual policy text? ARIN's site is a maze.
