Small correction: use AlmaLinux 9 or Rocky Linux 9, not CentOS Stream 9. Stream is upstream of RHEL now, not a downstream clone. For RHCSA prep you want behavior as close to RHEL as possible. Alma and Rocky are 1:1 binary compatible.

Also: document your lab publicly. Blog, GitHub, whatever. I have reviewed hiring packets where the GitHub repo with 50 commits of "broke GRUB, fixed GRUB, broke it again" was more persuasive than the cert itself.

Has anyone used the LPI online proctoring? Is it reliable? I am in rural area with okay internet, worried about disconnection during exam.

I did LPIC-1 with online proctor in Lyon. Connection was stable but the proctor software is very strict. No phone in room, no paper, no second monitor. They make you show the whole room with webcam. If internet disconnect, you have limited time to reconnect or exam is void.

Better to go to testing center if you have one nearby. In France there are centers in Lyon, Paris, Marseille, Toulouse.

MediaAlpha here. Old thread but relevant: I got LPIC-1 in 2018, let it expire, nobody ever asked if it was current. The knowledge stayed. The paper is just paper.

Renewal is expensive for what it is. My opinion: get it, list it, let it expire unless your employer pays.

Same experience with my CompTIA Linux+. Expired 2019. Still on my CV. Still got me interviews. The cert proves you once knew enough to pass. The job proves you still know.

What about Oracle Linux cert? OCI is growing in hosting. Any value?

Oracle Linux is niche in hosting. Enterprise database workloads, not web hosting. The cert exists but I have never seen it requested in any hosting job ad I analyzed. Stick to RHCSA or LPIC for this sector.

If you want cloud-specific later, AWS or Azure certs make more sense than Oracle.

Zhang39 here. I did RHCSA and LPIC-1 both. RHCSA was harder but more satisfying. LPIC-1 was broader but shallower. For hosting I use more of the LPIC-1 breadth daily. RHCSA depth only matters when I am on a RHEL-specific system.

If I could only keep one, LPIC-1 for hosting. RHCSA for enterprise.
