Why do launch offers always exclude existing customers?

Then it is not a guess, fair enough. I assumed you were guessing because most people do.

In Dakar the cheap offers are for new mobile subscriptions, same game. I have four SIM cards from the same operator. They know, they do not care.

Following this thread closely. My HostGator renewal just jumped to $11/month from the $3 I signed up with.

Swiss perspective: we have strong consumer protection against bait-and-switch, but "new customer only" is explicitly allowed if stated clearly. I checked with my consumer office when ABB did this with electricity plans.

The workaround is legal, the pricing practice is legal, everyone is annoyed, nothing changes.

Moved everything to Hetzner

Hetzner does raise prices though. My old AX42 went from 39 to 49 EUR. No workaround for that, you pay or you leave.

At least they tell you three months ahead. Small mercy.

This. Half the "same server" claims on this forum are people who looked at the datacenter city and assumed.

Has anyone actually had a host cancel both accounts for this? I have been double-accounting with Bluehost for four years, same credit card even.

Cancel both accounts

I have seen it once. Client used same PayPal, we merged the accounts and applied the higher rate retroactively. But that was a $50/month plan, not a $2 shared host. At that price point the cost of human review is more than the loss.

Cheap hosts are actually safer for this trick.

I tried the email trick with Ionos, they asked for phone verification and flagged the number. So it depends on the host.

This thread is making me check all my renewals now. Thanks I guess.
