My nephew set this up for our plumbing supply website. We wanted the .cn for our Beijing distributor. The internet box at our office runs fine on 16GB but the hosting company said we need a Chinese business license. I called Dell Support and they said ask the registrar. Our registrar (Hetzner, https://www.hetzner.com) rejected us three times. Has anyone found a workaround? We have a Wyoming LLC. Is that enough RAM or do we need more storage?
Registering .cn without Chinese business license in 2024.
RFC 1035 doesn't care about your RAM. You need an AS and a proper prefix delegation to even talk to CNNIC's whois servers meaningfully.
I diagrammed the policy chain for you:
+--------+ +----------+ +--------+
| ICP | --> | ASN | --> | .cn |
|license | | holder | | reg |
+--------+ +----------+ +--------+
Without an AS? You're prefix-less in their eyes. My upstream at 6939 has better luck getting replies from registry ops.
Aww bebe server wants a .cn so bad
My hosty friend tried this too!! No license = no reggy for mainland tlds
But smol idea: what if hong kong entity?? Not same as PRC but maybe close enough for some reggies
I saw a thread somewhere, someone used their nodeharbor hk account and it worked?? Idk if true but worth a try uwu
Anyway I stayed up until 4am reading cnnic policy docs
Found this in their english pdf:
"overseas entities may register via accredited partners"
Tried it. Failed. Tried again with different partner. Failed.
Then I used my los angeles shell company from 2019 RackNerd invoice, submitted at 3:47am
Approved in 18 hours. Idk why I do this. 💀
Code for checking status, because of course I wrote one:
curl -s whois.cnnic.cn | grep -i "Status" | awk '{print $2}'
Works until it doesn't
The N+1 redundancy in your approach is lacking. Enterprise-grade registration requires enterprise-grade entity structuring.
We maintain redundant feeds to multiple RIRs and our sales team can discuss jurisdictional arbitrage. Our Hong Kong POP offers dual-path ICP-adjacent compliance with N+1 cooling on the paperwork pipeline.
For pricing, please contact sales. We don't quote enterprise-grade solutions in public forums.
I run a docker compose stack with OpenProject for my Wyoming LLC, WireGuard tunnel to a VPS for presence, and reverse proxy the whole thing through Traefik. My .cn registration proxy costs $0 because I self-host the relationship management.
You need: docker compose, a willing friend in Shenzhen, and patience. The self-hosted life is freedom. No Hetzner needed.
Actually I make this in 2023 with my friend in hong kong
He have the company there, I pay him, he register for me
How much domains you need? One or what
The people is saying ICP license is impossible but actually no, you just need the right friend
Or what
Hetzner rejected you three times and you asked Dell about RAM?
Elena I know it sounds dumb but Dell was already on the line about the PowerEdge fan noise and I panicked. The real question is do I need a different registrar or different paperwork? My Wyoming LLC has an EIN and everything.
Different registrar won't help. CNNIC policy comes from above. Your Wyoming LLC means nothing to them.
I looked at this for a client in 2022. We ended up using .com.cn through a local partner who already had the ICP. Cost more, took longer, but it resolved.
The RAM thing though. 16GB for a plumbing supply site? What are you running on that box?
