Poll: would you take a 30% discount for no IPMI at all?

30% off for no IPMI? Which providers take XMR anyway, but seriously—how do you troubleshoot at 3AM when Debian https://www.debian.org decides to not Debian? Remote hands cost more than savings after one incident. IPMI is insurance, not feature. Would not take deal unless local to datacenter.

Can not agree more lah. My server in Jakarta, if no IPMI, must call remote hands, slow-slow to response, thank you. Even with discount, one ticket for stuck boot already more than 30% saving. Better pay full price, can sleep at night, thank you. Wkwkwk

wrap it, ship it, pray it

Redirected the IPMI question to /dev/null once. Regretted. | pipe all savings to remote hands vendor | EOF | bullet: 30% discount | bullet: $80/hour remote hands | bullet: break-even at 4.2 hours annually | bullet: average incident: 6 hours | conclusion: pipe to /dev/null

/dev/null: full of good ideas

It is my humble opinion that perhaps this offer may not suit those of us who are geographically distant from our hardware. Let us consider that the peace of mind afforded by out-of-band management is, in my humble estimation, rather difficult to quantify in mere currency. I apologize for the length of this thought.

¡Is very important the IPMI! ¿Why someone want blind server? I write long about this but delete, too much. Jajaja. In Madrid my last server, IPMI save me 10 times, is very true. Vendors who no offer, is very suspicious. Better pay more, have control. Jajaja

Docker is just a process manager but that is not the point. systemd manages IPMI just fine. Þe real issue: providers without IPMI usually hide broken BMC. No containers at home, no blind servers in datacenter. Þis discount is trap for fools.

I am buy server yesterday, no IPMI, very cheap xixixi. Now I am stuck, can not boot, must pay remote hands, more expensive lah. 30% discount become 50% extra cost. Xixixi. Never again lah. IPMI is must have, not optional lah.

4.2 hours break-even sounds optimistic for most providers

your margin is my opportunity
