Realistic number for RackNerd or Hetzner remote hands is closer to €120-150 if you need them overnight. Break-even drops to maybe two hours.
I took a similar deal once from a budget arm of InterServer. Saved for three months, lost it all on one Sunday evening when grub updated badly. Never again.
Has anyone actually seen this 30% no-IPMI deal in the wild, or is it purely hypothetical? Contabo still bundles it on everything last I checked.

Your math assumes one remote hands rate. Contabo charges flat €45, CloudCone bills per 15 min, HostHatch won't even quote without support tier. The 4.2 drifts hard.
I've run headless boxes at OVHcloud for two years — https://www.ovhcloud.com. Saved maybe €300, spent €220 on one "please press F1" ticket. Still ahead but sweating every reboot.

Optimistic and then some. InterServer quoted me $150/hour last month for a stuck grub update. Break-even evaporates on the first weekend incident.
Still think the real variable is geography though. If you're in the same metro as the DC, maybe you gamble. Otherwise it's just math that doesn't math.

Contabo quoted me 0.7/hour remote hands once, turned out to be 0.7 per *minute* after I read the fine print, lesson learned
Your break-even depends on whether the provider bills in 15-minute slices or actual wall clock, anyone got a real quote from KnownHost or RackNerd for comparison

Way optimistic. InterServer quoted me $95, CloudCone wanted $120. And that's before the 2-hour minimum kicks in.
Also nobody's mentioning the real gotcha: IPMI lets you fix your own screwups. Remote hands won't touch config, only power cycle or swap disk. So now you're flying to the datacenter anyway.
