Confirming from Istanbul. OVHcloud's London to here is congested in evenings. Their Singapore location is actually better for Turkey sometimes, 85ms but clean.
This is the problem with their network. Unpredictable routing from the same country to different destinations.

Tested the "mention BGP session" technique that got Hostinger's 25% discount. Tried same with Vultr. Their reply: "BGP sessions are available on our Bare Metal and Cloud Compute Large plans only, starting at $120/month."
So the technique works but has a floor. They won't give BGP on cheap VPS, and they won't discount the cheap VPS to compensate. Technique is provider-specific.

Vultr's BGP has a $120 floor? That's new to me. I thought their $60/plan included it. Must have changed or I'm misremembering.
Either way, for small operators ASN + BGP is overkill unless you're actually multi-homing. I run my own /24 and still don't bother with BGP at VPS level. Too much paperwork for too little gain.
Bratislava here, network boot believer. I have ASN for the learning, not the need. Applied for PI space, got /48 IPv6, now I announce it from a Hetzner VM using their BGP service.
Total cost: €20/year for ASN, €5/month for VM. Learning value: priceless. Actual utility: I can fail over my home VPN endpoint by updating a route. Neat party trick.
Hetzner's BGP service is solid. I use it for anycast DNS across three locations. Falkenstein, Nuremberg, Helsinki. The Helsinki one is backup only, but the failover works.
Their documentation is "read this RIPE page and good luck" though. Not for beginners.
Vienna here, yaml victim. This describes every Hetzner service. Their product works, their docs assume you already know how it works.
I once spent three hours figuring out their firewall API. The answer was in a GitHub issue, not the docs. Classic Hetzner.
Three hours? Amateur. I spent a weekend on their load balancer terraform provider. The documentation has a example that doesn't work with the current API version.
Their support ticket response: "Thank you for the feedback, we have forwarded this to the appropriate team." That was 2022. The example still doesn't work.
This is the Hetzner experience. Great hardware, great prices, support that technically exists. You pay for the discount in DIY time.
I've started documenting my own workarounds in a private wiki. If they ever fix their docs I'll have obsolete notes.

Does anyone have experience negotiating with Hetzner on their Storage Box product? I use two 10TB boxes for backup and the monthly is adding up. Wondering if annual prepay gets a discount.
I asked. Their reply: "Storage Boxes are already priced competitively, no discounts available." This was 2023, might have changed.
What I did instead: moved cold backups to their Storage Share (Nextcloud-based). Same price, but I can mount via WebDAV and deduplicate client-side. Saved me one box.
