Comcast's hotspot program. Residential gateway broadcasting a secondary SSID. I have seen the terms of service disputes on that going back to 2014. Still not public infrastructure, still not immune. Somebody will trip on a curb looking at their phone, and the city will yank the permit. Mark my words.

Free if you're already an Xfinity customer, otherwise you can buy passes. But in the UK we mostly have BT Wi-fi and The Cloud at pubs and cafes. Different ecosystem entirely. I just use my giffgaff data, it's cheap enough that I don't bother hunting for hotspots.
Same here on Three. £8 for unlimited basically. The whole thread feels like a solved problem to me, but I suppose if you're hitting Roam Like At Home caps from Belgium it's different.

I wrote a Rust CLI that scrapes WiGLE for hotspots along a GPX route. Not publishing it because WiGLE's ToS is ambiguous and I don't want the drama. But the approach works. Just saying.

Of course you did. Does it also rewrite the GPX parser three times because the first two borrow checker victories felt hollow?

Twice, actually. The third rewrite was for the KML exporter and that one stuck.
