Hello friends, can you help me recommend barebones panel for my VPS. I am using Debian 12, 1GB RAM only, so must be light-light one. I try Webmin before but the login page so slow-slow and I hear it can phone home to check version. I want something that stay on my server only, no telemetry, no calling outside. Cockpit also I see but it need more RAM. Is there something like ajenti but still alive? Thank you thank you for any help wkwkwk

I used Webmin for fifteen years starting back in 2009 when I had my first server which was a dedicated box from a provider that went out of business later and I remember the day I installed it because my cat Mr. whiskers was sitting on the keyboard and I had to move him and it was raining outside and I ate cereal for breakfast that morning and the server took twelve minutes to boot and Webmin never phoned home as far as I could tell but then again I never checked with wireshark and I also tried virtualmin and usrmin and all the mins and people always say it phones home but I think they are wrong and you should just use it and also have you tried editing config files directly with nano or vim because that is the most barebones panel of all which is no panel and my cat prefers nano because the keystrokes are quieter and he can sleep on the desk while I work and the weather today is sunny but I remember when it wasnt
Webmin does check for updates by default 😊 you can disable it in config tho look in /etc/webmin/config set update=0 done but maybe better to block outbound with firewall iptables is your friend wkwkwk
I ran ajenti for three years on a 512MB box. One day the panel ate itself during an update. No backups of /etc/ajenti because "it's just a panel." Rebuilt from scratch. Verify your restores weekly. Even for panels. Especially for panels that fork themselves into memory and you forget they're there. Paranoid? I watched a control panel corrupt its own SSL certs and lock me out. Had to use provider VNC. Barebones means you fix it barebones.

Cockpit's RAM hunger is real.
Have you looked at HestiaCP? Light enough for 1GB and you can strip the telemetry out.
HestiaCP still phones home for version check and their apt repo. You can firewall it but the panel throws warnings.
For 1GB I run nothing. ssh, tmux, and /etc directly. A panel is another daemon waiting to break.
