I think you pay for perception, not for protection. GDPR is same in all EU, no? Romania or Finland, law is law. I use RackNerd in Bucharest, price is good, DPA is easy to make a server up. Regards

- French node has no extra certification
The 40% is geography markup, not compliance. If you need EU, any EU node suffices. Cold climate is not a feature for most.

- from memory, OVHcloud's ToS has something about data processing location being specified at order

Look I have been running servers since 2009 and I tried the Stockholm thing with Vultr back in 2022 and the premium was not worth it except here is the thing nobody talks about I had a rack in their Sweden DC and the outside temperature was minus twenty and my power bill for cooling dropped to almost nothing because they use free air cooling and I had breakfast that morning it was oatmeal and my cat sat on the space heater because I turned it off since the server room was warm enough and the weather was clear and crisp and I saved enough on HVAC to justify the premium but not for privacy for cooling and everyone ignores this when they talk about nordic hosting and it drives me crazy when people do not read the whole thing — https://www.vultr.com/pricing/

Following this. I have clients asking the same "EU only" question and I never know what to tell them beyond "any EU country works."
Reykjavik_doc checking in from actual cold climate. Free cooling is real but the premium is not about cooling, it is about real estate and fiber paths. Iceland has same GDPR as Finland. Nobody pays extra for Reykjavik compliance. They pay for latency to US east coast.

This is the first useful thing said about Nordic premium. But Vultr Stockholm is not colocation, you do not pay power separately. How did you measure this? Their cloud pricing is flat rate.

I had bare metal in Sweden, not cloud. Vultr bare metal. You pay for the rack draw and I negotiated power included up to a limit and I stayed under because free air. This is why I said "rack" and not "instance" but I see how that was unclear. My fault.
