GreenCloudVPS launch promo or bait-and-switch?

Right then, who's been had by the old launch promo switcheroo?

I signed up with GreenCloudVPS on their birthday deal. $0.80 for year one, proper bargain that. Renewal invoice just landed: £71.40. I near spat my tea.

Turns out the £0.80 was "introductory pricing for new personal plans only" and the actual plan I was on was something else entirely. Buried in clause 14.3 of a PDF I evidently agreed to. My own fault for not reading the small print, but still. Cheeky.

Anyone else got war stories? Or is it just me being a mug?

Oh I have been had!!! GreenCloudVPS did the same to me!!! $1 to $89!!! I did not even notice until the charge hit!!!

The worst part is I only used it for a plex server I watched twice!!! $89 for two movies!!! That is $44.50 per movie!!!

I opened a ticket!!! They cited the same clause!!! I asked for Pro rata refund!!! They said no!!! I chargebacked and won but they banned my email domain!!! Worth it!!!

Now I screenshot every checkout page!!! Trust no host!!! Especially not GreenCloudVPS!!!

The ticket said: "customer claims price was $1, demands $88 refund, threatens social media campaign."

I worked abuse at a host that ran similar promos. The ticket said the customer had screenshotted the checkout page, the welcome email, and their own browser history. The ticket said our sales team had removed the renewal price from the checkout flow "for conversion optimization." The ticket said legal wanted to settle for six months free credit. The ticket said the customer wanted cash or nothing. The ticket said we gave cash.

I left before the class action. The ticket said my manager also left. We do not speak of it.

reported. resolved. repeat.

Bro I found the ceo post on reddit.

GreenCloudVPS ceo account u/davefromkoi made thread "we messed up" 3 months ago. Said "we didnt make renewal price clear enough". Promised "going forward all prices shown with renewal".

But they didnt refund anyone. Just "going forward". Thats not apology thats pr stunt.

I paid $1 then $89 too. My fault for not checking but still. $89 for 1gb vps is robbery. I can get dedicated for that money.

Never again GreenCloudVPS. Even if they pay me $1 I wont return!

Screenshot the checkout page and still got charged $89? Brutal

$89 for 1GB? I pay more for lunch but I get a 128GB dedi from Hetzner for that. These birthday promos are a tax on people who don't do maths.

This. I learned my lesson. Now I only buy yearly if I can afford to lose the money entirely. $1 is still $1 but $89 is a proper bill.

I'm in Hamburg so Hetzner is local to me. Their pricing is what you see, no tricks. GreenCloudVPS has that Amsterdam DC but why bother with the lottery when Hetzner exists?

Hetzner is good but no asia locations. GreenCloudVPS has Singapore and Tokyo which is why I tried them. For turkey routing asia is better than europe sometimes.

Fair point on the routing. I'm Manchester based so Amsterdam works fine for me. Still, I'd rather pay OVH's known price than play whack-a-mole with GreenCloud's clauses.
