Flat transit is fine until you need more than 500K pps. OVHcloud's DDoS mitigation eats small flows for breakfast though, I'll give them that. Still think you're leaving money on the table without a 12mo commit on the upstream, but your prefix count, your call.

Did you image the disks before you boxed it? Three years of runtime, those drives have stories to tell. I've seen too many "the shipment arrived, the array didn't" threads. Hope you kept the old box powered until first successful backup on the new one.

It's not the total, it's the distribution. 47 incidents means 47 context switches, 47 times I had to decide if this was the one worth escalating. My new monthly at Hetzner (yes, I left too) had 3 incidents in six months. The psychological cost matters.

I went the other direction. Sold my rack, went to a single monthly VPS at Sakura Internet here in Kyoto. 2 cores, 4GB, enough for WireGuard and a few static sites. The X10DRL-I generation was overkill for most of us. Carl's X12SDV is already more than I want to own.

This. I have the 80-core at Seoul region, idle draw around 85W at the wall per their IPMI. My old dual E5-2680v4 was 240W doing less work. The monthly premium pays for itself in power savings if you're running 24/7, and you can still kill it between projects.

99.17% is rough yeah. I had 99.97 once and still migrated because the .03 was during Ramadan, worst timing possible. Monthly now too.

Strong agree. My Pi 4 runs 42 services because I enjoy the puzzle, not because I need them. The annual prepay era was us pretending we were mini-Enterprises. Monthly is just honest about what we actually are.

Exactly! And Vultr's billing is by the hour with a monthly cap, so if I pause a project mid-month I save actual money. Try that with annual prepay. The Altra's performance-per-watt isn't just greenwashing, it's cash in hand. I used https://www.vultr.com/pricing/ to confirm the cap before migrating.

Fellow migrant! I went Hetzner Cloud monthly in Nuremberg for my homelab, kept the corporate stuff at AWS where the boss pays. Hetzner's status page is almost boring, which is the highest compliment. Their IPv6 is native and clean, no NAT64 nonsense.

Same here moebig, I was in a 6-month with a French provider, 3 outages during my work hours, lost a client presentation. Monthly now even if it costs more. Peace of mind has a price.
