After three years of being locked into a SuperMicro X10DRL-I at a colo that shall remain nameless, I shipped the pallet last Tuesday. 2U, 420W under load, $89/month on a 12-month contract I signed in July 2024. Never again. The replacement is a monthly X12SDV at OVHcloud — https://www.ovhcloud.com. Same core count, half the power draw, and I can walk away with 30 days notice. The freedom is worth the 8% price premium.
Actually back in my day (2019) we all did annual prepay because monthly wasn't even offered for the good deals (you had to hunt in LowEndSomething forums (actually version 4.2 of their software, before the redesign (which ruined everything))) but I get it, the flexibility is nice, I had a quarterly once that I regretted because I found a better deal two months in
This is insane value territory now! Ampere Altra on monthly at Vultr runs circles around my old annual E5 v3! 80 cores, 2.8GHz all-core, and I can spin it down between projects! The efficiency is just bonus! Freedom plus performance!

Peering @Carl. BGP v6 native at OVHcloud? Transit pricing on monthly always worse. Tier-1 annual commit still king for bgp tables. Fw rules dont care about billing cycle tho. Rt filter your prefixes, save teh fees either way.
The annual trap got me once $47 for whole year seemed good but then Contabo did a €3.50 monthly and I was stuck watching it lol never again im definitely monthly now even if it costs a lot more overall
Did you test your restore during the migration? I always recommend the 3-2-1 rule: 3 copies, 2 different media, 1 offsite. Before you celebrate too hard, run a full restore test on that new monthly box. Freedom means nothing if your data doesn't follow you.
