So registrar called me yesterday they want sell me "brand protection bundle" for my side project. Is trademark + 10 TLDs + monitoring + something called "enforcement portal"

Price: $899 first year, then $300/year. I make a test and search what this cost separate: trademark filing $250, domains maybe $120, rest is... monitoring? They say "proactive takedown service" but my project is small bro, who will fake my brand?

I told them I think about it. They send three emails already

Anyone actually bought this? Is very good or very bad? I don't understand what I paying for honestly

WARNING what could go wrong

  • Auto-renewal buried in terms
  • Monitoring service sells your brand list to competitors
  • "enforcement portal" is just a contact form with markup
  • Bundle auto-enrolls you in $300/year monitoring you cannot cancel without losing domains
  • Registrar becomes your trademark agent, switching costs explode

I have seen this! Friend used Hetzner bundle, tried cancel monitoring, they said trademark was "tied service." Had to abandon mark.

Use separate providers. Fail2ban for your servers, firewall for your budget.

My friend buy this bundle from Vultr. Is it? They think they buy domain only, but trademark monitoring go go automatic. $300 charge come every year, they dont know until check check bank statement

"proactive takedown" is just google form. I am telling you

To be honest

Bundles make sense in exactly two cases:

  • You have actual counterfeits appearing (measure: >5 takedown requests/month)
  • Your mark is descriptive and vulnerable in EU/UK

Otherwise: separate trademark counsel, separate registrar, separate monitoring. As said, switching costs are the real product.

Dry numbers: $899 bundle vs. $370 à la carte = $529 premium. At $300/year monitoring, break-even vs. Self-managed is 18 months if you have zero incidents. Most small projects have zero incidents.

I use OVHcloud. They do not sell bundles. I asked why. This is why.

Lawyer I know says bundles are sweet as if you're actually getting sued already? Otherwise chur just register your domains separate and keep receipts

My mate bought one, never used the "enforcement portal" once. $300/year for emails saying "no infringements found"? Nah

This is the part that gets me. A trademark is property. You should be able to transfer it, let it lapse, whatever. But if your registrar files it under their own agent account, you're stuck.

I asked OVHcloud about this once. They said they don't do bundles because they don't want to be your legal representative. Smart.

Bruno22: if you already filed the mark yourself, the bundle is worthless. If you haven't, do it through INPI or your local office directly.

But now I worry: they have my phone number. Three emails already. How many more?
