I run a small Mastodon instance on Hetzner CAX21 in Falkenstein. 4core/8GB, €5.35. It handles 15 active users, which is pathetic scale but it's my pathetic scale.
PostgreSQL on same box, no redis because memory tight. ARM has been boring in the good way. One scare: a gem failed to compile native extension, but it was the gem's fault, old version. Updated, worked.
12ms to Frankfurt, 180ms to everywhere I actually need.
Following this thread closely. My pihole is still ARM but I'm tempted to move my actual website now. The "boring in the good way" comment is what I needed to hear.
Not ready to compile ffmpeg though. That can stay on x86.
Has anyone tested ARM with elasticsearch or opensearch? I remember reading it was problematic but that was 2022. Wondering if current versions are fine.
