It's always DNS until it's IPv6 DNS. AAAA records pointing at a tunnel endpoint that goes down at 3AM because HE had maintenance. Ask me how I know.

Confirmado. Revisé porque me sonó raro. RackNerd: Los Angeles, San Jose, Seattle, Chicago, Dallas, New York, Ashburn, Atlanta, Amsterdam. Fin de la lista. No Bogotá, no Miami, no São Paulo.

Asymmetric routing is the #1 reason people panic at traceroutes. Your return path != forward path. Those asterisks? Usually ICMP rate limits, not packet loss. Modern routers deprioritize ICMP to the control plane.

It's always DNS. It's also always "the backup worked until you needed it." I test restore after every major config change now. Took one disaster to learn.

Update: did a migration last night, client had TTL at 86400 from 2019. Lowered it 48 hours prior, still got three angry emails during propagation. Some people have zero patience. The DNS was correct. Their browser cache was not. Always blame...

Telegram bots are great until the bot owner ghosts and the API key expires. Been there.
I ended up wiring a dead-simple webhook into our own RackNerd project (https://www.racknerd.com). Pushes to a private Matrix room, no polling at all. Matrix handles the rate limiting client-side so the server ju...

Before you migrate, check your resolver. CPanel and DirectAdmin handle DNS differently.
TTL on your SOA matters. Lower it to 300 before you start. Propagation will still happen, but...

Check your resolver. If they changed NS records and you did not notice, you might not be talking to the same infrastructure from 2016. TTL on their zone is 3600, propagation would be fa...

128 days but this thread is still relevant.
Off topic but since you brought it up, has anyone actually seen IPMI exposed to the public internet in the wild recently? I scan ranges for work and the numbers dropped off a cliff around 2021. Either people wise...
