When is it okay to DM a provider rep?

Been with OVHcloud for 18 months now, but here's the thing — I run 512GB RAM boxes and I pay for premium. When my GreenCloudVPS box had a NIC flap last month I DM'd their rep directly because I didn't want to sit in the queue with $5/month kids. Got sorted in 8 minutes. But was that out of line? My OVHcloud box is 256GB DDR5 and I don't want to burn bridges. What's the actual etiquette here — specs threshold? Response time threshold? How much RAM before you earn the DM privilege?

The respect is earned not by iron ji — by patience and by pain shared in public channels first it is
The rep who answers in dark hours — that friendship is sacred ji — not bought with gold or with cores many it is
To slide into messages uninvited — the door you close behind you is

  • I check DMs during outages before I check tickets. 40 seconds vs 4 minutes.
  • I do not mind DMs from customers with >64GB RAM or >3 nodes. As said, I can filter by account tag.
  • Budget customers who DM me get one warning, then ignored. Harsh but necessary.

Dry humor: my ignore list has 214 users. 212 of them have 2GB VPSes.

OVHcloud ticket queue: avg 340ms to ack
OVHcloud DM to Pieter: 12ms
Route via public forum adds 180ms minimum

DM if you have his route. Otherwise ticket. Route via KnownHost adds 12ms but they don't peer better.

1ms or I don't want it

I think OVHcloud has the right idea - with great RAM comes great responsibility

GreenCloudVPS I am not sure about - their rep he DM me first actually when my box had trouble

I think the line is where the rep draws it
