I do Tallinn, Riga, and a Hetzner box in Germany. Close enough for low latency, far enough for different power grids. The Riga one is on a $2/month Time4VPS KVM that does nothing but receive zfs snapshots. Uptime 847 days.
What's your backup strategy?
I have been married 14 years and my server has been up 1,847 days. The server wins. Backups go to my father-in-law's garage in Leeds and a Kimsufi box in France. He thinks it is a thermostat.
Btw I use borgbackup. Deduplication is incredible. First backup of my 40GB /home was 40GB. Daily incrementals average 200MB. Going back six months still under 60GB total. Borgbase.com for the offsite repo but I also have a usb drive at work.
Friends I am reading all this and I feel less paranoid now. My three locations: Hostinger auto, rsync to my old laptop in my mother's house, and one to Google Drive. Is Google Drive okay or should I change?
I just use the host backup and download a zip once a month. Is that really so bad? My sites are small.
Following this thread. Currently host only plus Dropbox. Thinking of adding rsync.net after reading.
What is rclone? Is it hard to set up? I have shared hosting on Namecheap.
