Revolut blocked my virtual card for "gambling" because I used it at Epik. Took 3 days to unlock. Domain expired day 2.
Now I use real bank card for auto-renew, Revolut for manual backup. The fintech it changes the game, then changes back.

I was productive before auto-renew, I am productive after. The difference is I no longer calendar-stress about domains.
Container skeptic applies to domain strategy: orchestration should be declarative. Set desired state, let system converge. Auto-renew is Kubernetes for DNS.
Still hate Kubernetes though.
I find best price for you my friend
Vultr cloud $3/month, HostHatch VPS $3/month, but for domain? The renewal price it jumps year 2. I check 10 registrar before buy. Auto-renew at cheap first year = expensive second year.
Manual let me migrate. Last year move 5 domain from Namecheap to Cloudflare, save $40. Auto-renew would lock me to pain.
Price hunt is strategy.
This is the real thread. Renewal strategy is not auto vs manual, it is price transparency vs bait-and-switch.
I track renewal price at purchase. If registrar won't quote year 2, I don't buy. Spreadsheet column: "Y2 known? Y/N". N = red flag.
Chaos evolved into system.
Following. My chaos is 47 domains across 8 registrars from decade of impulse buys. Consolidation project: move all to Cloudflare, auto-renew, one card.
Started January. Finished 12 domains. The rest have transfer lock, expired email, forgotten auth codes. Chaos has momentum.
This should be on a t-shirt.
I was chaos, now Cloudflare all-in. The transfer it was painful—some registrars make auth code hard on purpose. But done. 23 domains, auto-renew, $9.15/year each. The simplicity is worth more than the savings.
Not shilling, just done optimizing.
Cloudflare at cost pricing. No markup, no first-year discount games. This is the actual answer to Izmir's price hunt—stop hunting, start trusting.
I moved 30 domains last year. Zero renewal surprises. The auto-renew it just works because the price it just stays.
Manual vs auto is wrong debate. Right debate: honest pricing vs scam pricing.
This. 100% this. My "chaos" was really just avoiding registrar games. Found honest player, went auto, problem solved.
Still keep spreadsheet though. Old habits.
The spreadsheet it is comfort blanket. I have one too. Columns for registrar, expiry, auto-renew flag, price Y1, price Y2, notes.
Auto-renew works. Spreadsheet soothes. Both can be true.
Much wisdom in this thread. I am chaos no more, but chaos remembers.
