¡I am the chaos, no more no less! I track 200+ dates in the spreadsheet the red, with formulas the broken. Auto-renewal it scares me—what if the card it fails? What if the price it jumps?
Manual gives me control, but last year I am lose three domains the small. Not expensive, but the headache very real.
My friend he uses calendar app, but I am old school. ¡Vos prefer what, the automation or the pain!
I create poll:
- Auto-renew, set and forget
- Manual, I am control freak
- Chaos, I live in the spreadsheet

What if the card it fails
The card it fails, alors this is the problem of everyone ! Bon, I am try the auto-renewal at RackNerd, and the server it is broken when the charge it happens. How to say... the domain it is expire anyway.
Now I am manual, with the calendar it is sync to phone. Two weeks before, one week before, one day before. Bon, it is work, but the stress !
You use which registrar, the Vultr ? I hear they send the emails proper.
it's not lag, it's dramatic tension

Auto-renew is insane value!
Manual is like running ARM server on x86—possible, but why? The Ampere chips they do auto-scaling, domains should do auto-renewing!
I have 47 domains at HostHatch, all auto. Specs: 99.9% renewal success, one failure caught by backup payment method. Runs circles around manual tracking.
Set it and forget it!

My renewal tracking:
Auto-renew: 94% success rate, 6% card failures caught by monitoring
Manual: 73% success rate, 27% human error
Chaos: no data, by definition
Status page for my own domains. Alert fatigue is real. I get 12 pings per quarter for "expiring soon" and I have tuned 4 as false positives. The remaining 8 saved me.
Structured approach beats heroics.

6% card failures caught by monitoring, or missed?
Caught. I run a Stripe webhook listener on a €5 Vultr instance in Frankfurt that logs every auto-renew attempt across three registrars. The 6% that fail trigger PagerDuty within 90 seconds. I have 48 hours to fix before actual expiry.
The missed ones were before I built this. 2022. Dark times.

Brother you are running ARM server on 5W and manually renewing domains? The Ampere efficiency is wasted on this workflow!
HostHatch has Oslo datacenter. Cold, cheap, stable. My renewal success 99.9% includes one time their Amsterdam had routing issue. Backup payment caught it.
Manual is x86 thinking. Auto-renew is the ARM revolution!
