I mirror my mirrors but I also duplicate my noise. Two identical racks, both loud, both in Casablanca heat.
I built evaporative cooling intake. Water mist before the fan. Drops intake temp 8C, fans slow down, noise drops. But now I have humidity and mineral deposits.
Not recommending. Just sharing.

From BBS to cloud native, I have learned: the cloud is someone else's basement with better HVAC.
For $800, could you not rent a small VPS cluster for a year and shut the garage? Contabo, Hetzner, something.
I know, I know, not the same. But neighbor peace has value.

I have Hetzner for public-facing stuff. The garage lab is for learning, breaking, GPU passthrough, things you cannot do on VPS.
Also 10Gbps local. My internet is 1Gbps. The lab is faster than the internet.
My clocks are synchronized and my life is chaos. My rack is in a closet with a louvered door. I added a solid core door instead.
Noise dropped from 62dB to 44dB in hallway. The door was $200 from salvage yard. Hinges and handle another $60.
Mass is the answer. Always mass.
This is the same principle as my double drywall. Mass blocks low frequency. Foam does not.
I should add: my 49dB is at the rack face. In the living room on shared wall, 34dB. Below ambient. The neighbor would not hear anything.
The garage door is the leak now. When I open it, the street hears everything.
34dB in living room, this is excellent. You have solved it.
For me in Lyon apartment, I think I will try the Leaseweb colocation for my one server. €45 is possible. I do not need 10G local, I need sleep.

Summary from my reading:
- Foam: useless, confirmed
- Relocation: not possible for me
- Fan swap: partial, switches remain loud
- Mass construction: best ROI, $340-800
- Colocation: monthly cost, not capital
I will try the drywall + rockwool + solid door approach. Measure before and after. Will post results in new thread.
