This is credible. I have 38dB in my flat with nothing running. Your garage before 71dB, after 49dB, this is reasonable.
But I am in Lyon, apartment. No garage, no basement. I would need to rent local colocation or put servers at my parents in the countryside. For me the Leaseweb option at €45 is interesting — https://www.leaseweb.com — but I need less than 1U. I have only one server.
The real question for danfra: what is your lease situation? If you own the house, basement is best. If you rent, the enclosure or relocation is impossible without landlord.

Renting. Landlord is reasonable but basement has moisture issues, old house. Dehumidifier running already. Adding heat load worries me.
Shed is not an option, no garden. Garage is it.
Replace with 80mm Noctua where chassis allows
Supermicro 826 and 846 chassis. 80mm fans exist for these? I thought they were locked to San Ace 40mm.

826 takes 80mm in the middle fan wall if you remove the shroud. 846 is harder, the backplane airflow wants the 40mm pressure.
You can also replace the PSU fans alone, those are 40mm but standard size. Noctua NF-A4x20. Cuts 4-5 dB, not 10.
The real problem is your 10G switches. Those are always 40mm screamers. Mellanox, Ubiquiti, same story. No replacement possible.

This. I have EdgeSwitch 16 XG. Even at idle the fans hunt. Not constant hum, so my anti-phase disaster could never work on it anyway.
I should sell it and get something passively cooled but then I am back to 1G. Life is tradeoffs.

Interesting. I have 4 SFP+ ports in use now, 8 planned. That model has 20x 10G. Price?
And fanless means no redundancy. Single PSU. For home lab maybe fine.

Disagree. 42U is future expansion. But fill it gradually and you create thermal problems. Better to start with 25U if you have 6 servers.
I am in Tallinn also. The humidity here is lower than Frankfurt, but winters are cold. Garage is fine if you insulate the rack, not the room.
Leaseweb offers 1U from €45
I said this already. But for danfra's 6 servers, colocation is €270/month. His $800 budget pays for three months. Not a solution.
