Three-year review: the €30/month server still standing

Contabo skin or not, 3 years at €4 is longer than most "real" hosts last in that bracket.

Aren't we all.

Has anyone actually pushed the 1TB bandwidth to see what happens? Curious if there's a hard cap or if they just start ignoring tickets.

18 days quiet so I will ask

Mine died when Contabo did a billing system migration in 2022 and all the white-label accounts got purged.

Did you get any migration notice or just dead one morning

My KnownHost shared is also Contabo under the hood and now I wonder if I should start backups

25 days and nobody asked the obvious — did anyone actually try to *move* off Leaseweb

I tried last month, cPanel backup was 400MB for a 10GB account, turns out they don't include the "unlimited" email storage in the archive

Borrowed time

More like borrowed disk, my guess is Contabo just forgot to shut down the reseller API endpoint

Still, $12 and three years of not thinking about hosting is probably the best value in this entire forum

Anyone got a current ticket response time from "Dave"

$3/year. 128MB RAM. Pure happiness.

I'm still thinking about this thread.

Support tickets get answered in 48h by someone named "Dave" who definitely isn't three people sharing a persona
Dave answered me too once. Same cadence, same "Best regards," every time. I ran it through a stylometry toy and the confidence interval was basically a coin flip between one very boring human or a template engine with three greeting variants. My Contabo skin died in 2022 but it wasn't Leaseweb, it was one of the smaller ones. KnownHost maybe? They just stopped resolving one Tuesday. No email, no tweet, just NXDOMAIN and a support portal that 404'd before the whois even updated. Leaseweb lasting this long on grandfathered wholesale is almost impressive. Or Contabo forgot they exist. Same result either way. Has anyone actually tried to *move* a site off Leaseweb recently? I'm curious if the backups work or if it's roach motel architecture.

62 days, figured this thread was done but here I am.

PHP 8.1 (lol)

Honestly that's the part that would spook me more than the Dave situation. Not the version itself, just that they haven't bumped it to 8.2 or 8.3 to look alive. Stagnant stack smells like "we touch nothing and hope the server keeps spinning."

Still, three years is three years. I've had "real" hosts with worse uptime. Did you ever try pushing that bandwidth limit or were the WordPress sites light enough that 1TB was theoretical anyway

87 days and nobody asked the obvious

Dave is ticket system auto-name

Did anyone ever test this

I opened three tickets same hour, all signed "Dave", same greeting pattern

Fourth ticket I asked "are you the same Dave from March"

Reply: "Yes I remember your issue"

There is no memory, there is no Dave

Still my invoice says $12 so I don't ask too loud

149 days, guess we're all still waiting for the other shoe to drop

Honestly that's the part that scares me most. 8.1 goes security-EOL in november, "Dave" gonna patch or we all learning how to fence wordpress on a toaster

My 2022 Contabo skin died when they did a "server migration" that was just them forgetting to move my account. No backup, no sorry, just ticket closed as resolved with a smiley

Wonder if Leaseweb's "dave" has ever done a migration or if they're still on the original 2019 box

152 days and nobody mentions the PHP 8.1

That's the real crime here, not the lifetime deal economics

I had a Hetzner skin back when they were still KnownHost resellers, died in four months but at least they gave me PHP 8.2

Dave answering tickets in 48h is honestly better support than half the "real" hosts I've paid real money for

Did anyone ever actually push the 1TB to see what happens

177 days, nice round number for a resurrection

My OVHcloud "lifetime" deal from the same era still limps along too, though they bumped me to PHP 8.2 last year which broke two ancient plugins I was too lazy to update

The "Dave" thing is real across multiple skins, I got "Sarah" at mine for 18 months then she vanished and "Dave" appeared with the same typing cadence

Has anyone actually tried to push the bandwidth limit on these grandfathered setups? I always assumed the 1TB was a fiction they'd enforce the second you tested it

192 days and nobody asked the obvious — did anyone else actually renew

I was about to grab the same Leaseweb deal last year but held off when I saw the checkout page still listed PHP 7.4 "coming soon"

This is the part that gets me, every "Dave" reply I got from Hetzner back in the day had the exact same sign-off timing

Has anyone here tried migrating OUT of Leaseweb
My guess is the backup tool is "coming soon" too
