Three-year review: the €30/month server still standing

Yeah yeah, I know. I bought Leaseweb's "lifetime" deal in 2022 as a joke, fully expecting it to die in 6 months like every other "too good to be true" host.

It's now May 2025. Still works. CPanel still loads. My 3 WordPress sites still serve. Support tickets get answered in 48h by someone named "Dave" who definitely isn't three people sharing a persona.

Specs haven't changed:

  • 10GB SSD (probably not SSD)
  • Unlimited* bandwidth (*they mean 1TB)
  • Let's Encrypt works
  • PHP 8.1 (lol)

Uptime is... actually fine? I have better monitoring on this joke box than my production servers.

So what's the catch. There has to be a catch. Who's subsidizing this? Is Dave a philanthropist? Is this a front? Someone do the detective work I can't be bothered with.

SWEdish detective work ENGAGED

Fika first, then WHOIS

The domain Leaseweb döt cöm registered 2019, privacy protected
But the IP range belongs to "Contabo Wholesale Solutions"
And Contabo stopped selling retail in 2021...

1. Check the domain Leaseweb.com
2. Find the owner name same as Contabo old employee
3. He buy wholesale account very cheap before Contabo stop
4. Now he sel sel sel with no support cost
5. The business model: one person, many server, no upgrade

The price €30/month not possible for me
You lice on his kindness
When he stop, you stop

I give this host 6 month more

What kernel is Leaseweb running under that skin

#7

Borrowed time or not, three years is still three years

#8

What's the actual cpu limit on that "unlimited" plan

$3/year. 128MB RAM. Pure happiness.

I had a Contabo VPS too, died 2022

That would explain the 48h ticket times. Dave isn't a person, Dave is a cron job that emails Contabo's NOC and pastes the reply back.

Mine died when Contabo did a billing system migration in 2022 and all the white-label accounts got purged. Leaseweb must have slipped through a crack.

How many sites are you actually running on that 10GB?
