Where did you land? I tested HostHatch Madrid and it was faster but their control panel makes me cry. RackNerd's price for 4GB is what HostHatch charges for 2GB. Hard to justify for personal projects.

This is testable. Srelet, did you run your latency tests during business hours or during the 2am windows? Because if the datacenter is empty, you get consistent performance at all hours. That is not an infrastructure win. That is a utilization win. Temporary by definition.

GreenCloud in Singapore. Price similar, alerts at 3am now instead of 2am. Progress.

Both. The 2am windows are actually *better* because there's literally nobody else generating traffic. I ran fio at 2am, 10am, 6pm Dallas time for two weeks. Variance was under 5%. On Leaseweb Frankfurt we saw 40% variance by hour.
Methodology: three RackNerd Dallas KVM plans, smallest tier. Same workload profile as our old Leaseweb boxes. fio randread 4k, ioping 100 samples, application-level p99 from our own traces.
How's the routing to Indonesia? My cousin in Jakarta complains about anything not on Singtel or Telkom.
I'm in Lima. RackNerd Dallas is my best option price-wise but the latency to South America is worse than BuyVM's Miami. Not RackNerd's fault, just geography. The "same playbook" complaints though, those I share. Ticket response time is identical to every budget host I've used.
Berlin here too. I worked in a DC that decommissioned half a floor. The remaining customers got moved to one end, power to the other half got cut. "Ghost infrastructure" is just... real estate with a UPS. Not a loophole. Not fascinating. Just someone paying less rent.

Did you compare price too? Leaseweb bills in EUR, RackNerd in USD. At current exchange rates my RackNerd Dallas came out 60% cheaper than Leaseweb Frankfurt for the same hardware. Does that factor into your postmortem? Because if the problem is the same but it costs half, maybe the budget will thank you.

Sim, conta. The cost drop is why we haven't moved again. Same pain, half the price, better latency. Finance is happy. I'm... managing. The SRE scream is quieter but not silent.
This is probably the correct take. I traced the building ownership. It's operated by a shell that also operates a self-storage facility in Plano. Not joking.
