Vienna to OVHcloud Gravelines is 22ms. To Hetzner Falkenstein is 18ms. Both fine. I went annual with Hetzner because their VAT handling for Austria is cleaner. OVHcloud invoices are a mess for my accountant. €100 saved is not worth the paperwork headache.
Should I prepay OVHcloud 3 years to save €100?
Same here. OVHcloud billing is weird. They charge in EUR but my card gets weird conversion timing. Hetzner bills in EUR, clean. I do quarterly with them just to avoid the invoice mess.
Okay so consensus seems like: OVHcloud 3 year is risky because lending them money, fire history, billing mess. Hetzner annual is safer middle ground. But I already have stuff running on OVHcloud, moving is pain.
Maybe I just do 1 year OVHcloud? Less savings but less lock-in?
1 year is the sweet spot for most. Discount is usually 15-20%, not 40%, but you can re-evaluate in 12 months. Provider landscape changes fast. 3 years ago Hetzner did not have Singapore. Now they do. Locking 3 years means missing whatever appears next year.
Also: OVHcloud 1-year discount is often same percentage as 3-year. Check the actual offer. Sometimes 3-year is only marginally better.
Just checked. 1 year is €5.60/mo, 3 year is €4.20. So 1 year saves €16.80, 3 year saves €100.80. Big gap. But youre right, 1 year lets me move if something better shows. I think Im gonna do 1 year and sleep okay. Thanks all.
