Back when I ran my ISP we peered with some of the SCL-IX folks. Decent exchange, small but functional. The "direct connectivity" claim is probably true but means less than people think.

In Lyon I pay more for less bandwidth. French hosting is expensive, no secret. But at least I know my datacenter is in Paris or Frankfurt, not somewhere with earthquakes.

SCL-IX is about 300Gbps total. Compare to LINX or AMS-IX and you see the scale problem. Functional yes. Abundant no.

From Madrid I get 210ms to Santiago. Not great but my Spanish clients don't complain. Vultr works fine for them.

Thanks all. So consensus is: cheap yes, fast no, cable cuts real but not dealbreaker? I think I try small batch first.

Read their terms. "CLP pricing" usually means they convert USD at some rate they control. You might save today and lose tomorrow on exchange.

I run a Windows VM on Vultr São Paulo for a client. Same price as US, better latency for their Brazilian users. Santiago would be worse for them though.
Have you tried restarting it?
