From dial-up BBS to cloud native, seen it all. In the BBS days we ran databases on 640KB. But those were flat files with fixed-width records, not relational. The comparison is fun but not fair.

Atlanta here. I keep a 128MB Contabo in St. Louis for DNS secondary. That's all it does. BIND with minimal config, 30MB RAM used, never touches swap. Right tool for right job.

This is the correct use case for 128MB. DNS, VPN endpoint, lightweight proxy, maybe a tiny static site. Not a LEMP stack.

It's always DNS. Always.

Yes I know now. But where is the fun in correct use case? 😂

Twenty years on call. Mostly here for the deals. My advice: pay for the RAM, sleep through the night. The 3 EUR you save is not worth the 3AM page.

I am not on call for this, is personal project. But yes for production I agree 100%

I administrate the servers for my association since 2018. We have 50 members and small WordPress. I start with 512MB OVH VPS and now use 2GB. The growth is natural, do not fight it.

prix fixe infrastructure: €5/mo

OVH is good price too. In Poland many people use OVH or Hetzner, less Contabo for small projects.

In Berlin we have many Hetzner fans. Their 2GB CX11 is 4.51 EUR now, very competitive. I use for personal Nextcloud.
