Namecheap already showing "limited time" pricing here in Melbourne, jumped on it for my 6 production domains. Cloudflare Registrar still $9.15 but no bulk renew discount, and you can only renew 1 year at a time there anyway. No escape hatch.
Registry price caps removed, what's your .com strategy?
Yeah I looked at Cloudflare, no multi-year is dealbreaker for this situation. Porkbun has decent rates, Google Domains was my goto but they sold to Squarespace and prices went up. Ended up renewing 31 domains at Namecheap, mixed 1-5 years depending on quality. $1,847 gone. Ouch.
Then they pay for themselves with parking or redirect, no? If not, they are not asset, they are liability. My 3 domains make money, I do not worry about price.
.pl is good for Poland market but for international project .com still king. I have 11 .com for clients, they all want .com, no discussion. Price increase will pass to clients eventually.
Bro you are lucky or lying. Most domain do not make money directly. They are for brand, for email, for future project. Not everything is parking revenue.
Here in São Paulo the real is already weak against dollar. .com at $18 would be painful. I have 4 .com for my business, thinking to switch 2 to .com.br which is cheaper and better for local customers anyway. ICANN does not care about emerging market.
In Japan we have many good alternatives - .jp, .co.jp, even .tokyo. But for my English-language projects .com is still necessary. I renewed 5 domains for 5 years at GMO, their multi-year discount helped. Total was still cheaper than 1 year at some registrars.
Sir @larryjeong you are very brave to spend so much money sir. I have only 2 domains sir, I renew for 10 year also. Thank you for warning sir.
What is ICANN? Why they can raise price? I thought domain price is fixed. This thread is scary.
Short version: ICANN runs the root, Verisign runs .com, they made a deal, price caps came off in 2024-2026 depending on interpretation. Verisign can now raise .com prices within limits. Read the first post again, or google it.
