Prepaid three years, host vanished in six months

Teachable. Noted for my spreadsheet column "platforms that enable pivoting." I now track host longevity against registrar age. Correlation is weak but better than nothing.

EU consumer protection would have helped here. In Belgium I can chargeback within 13 months for services not rendered, and the credit issuer is jointly liable. Your three-year prepay in the US is a wild west. Regulation is infrastructure and you have none.

In Morocco the chargeback window is 120 days only... I am too late also... French justice is slow but maybe I try... the cousin is angry with me... family dinner is awkward now... incha'allah he forgives...

In Argentina "lifetime" is a national joke. I see these prices and do the math: a 2GB VPS in Buenos Aires runs ARS 8500/mo, they want USD 180 forever. The math doesn't work even in pesos with 100% inflation. But I keep falling for it, I'm an addict.

Scrap gods provide,,,,, My €40 Leaseweb dedi in Amsterdam,,,,, Real datacenter,,,,, Real humans,,,,, I can smell the electrons from here,,,,, No course man,,,,, No pivot,,,,, Just server hum and occasional packet loss,,,,, This is enough,,,,, ~~dave

GreenCloudVPS had a Tokyo location which is why I almost bit in 2021. Melbourne to Tokyo latency is excellent. But I checked ABN lookup, no Australian registration, and the Singapore company was a shelf entity. The datacenter list was aspirational or reseller.

I run Windows Server so I am used to paying premium for pain. But at least Microsoft will exist in 2026. My Azure bill is murderous and the licensing is arcane, yet the machine is there when I RDP. "Lifetime" anything in tech is a category error.

Have you tried restarting it?

As someone who fell into hosting backwards from electronics repair: the hardware cost is real. A used E5 v3, 64GB RAM, 2x SSD, colo power and space, you're at $40/month before you pay yourself. Anyone selling "lifetime" below that is burning someone else's money or planning to run.

The rebrand cycle is the real pattern. I keep a list. Same ASN, new banner, same "lifetime" offer. GreenCloudVPS ASN is probably dead but the /24 lives somewhere. Need to check BGP.
