Twenty years and I have seen maybe three incidents where the SLA actually mattered to the business. The rest was resume padding for the CTO.
Poll: What's your actual monthly downtime tolerance?
I monitor with UptimeRobot free tier. If it does not ping, I do not know. My tolerance is whatever UptimeRobot tells me it was.
Hetzner to Mumbai routing goes through Singapore datacenter. Sometimes it is not down, just the route is bad. I learned to check with mtr before I panic.
Has anyone actually collected on an SLA? Like filed the ticket and got the credit? I tried with a provider once and they said "planned maintenance" for 6 hours at 2am on a Saturday. Never again.
Xixixi you all too serious again. My coffee 25k IDR my vps 15k IDR equivalent. If down I drink coffee wait come back. Why stress?
I moved from RackNerd to Hetzner last year because of downtime. RackNerd was fine for price but the network drops in LA were annoying. Hetzner Nuremberg has been solid.
I got 10% credit once. Took 14 emails. The downtime cost me more in labour than the credit was worth.
Night shift means I am awake when things break in EU. My tolerance is high because I am there to fix it myself. If it breaks during my day sleep, someone else can deal.
This. My "downtime tolerance" is really just "how long until my users email me." For personal stuff, infinite. For the one client site I host, about 20 minutes.
Same here.
