Oh man those are 95W TDP each. You are basically running a space heater that also does DNS. Respect the nostalgia but have you priced a used R630? Drop-in replacement, maybe 40W idle with E5 v3. I see them on eBay CA for like 300 CAD.

I apologize for the contradiction, yet I must confess that the Pentium 4 draws 95W total and has not required intervention in eight years. The environmental cost of manufacture exceeds that of operation, in my humble estimation. I apologize for having an opinion.
In Poland electricity is cheaper than West Europe, maybe 0.15 EUR/kWh. So old server is not so bad. My parents do not care about power bill, they care about internet working. Polish hosting is underrated but Polish electricity is also underrated for home lab.
Thanks ronwit, X5650 is what I guessed. Those are actually not terrible for the era. I had a R710 with L5640, low voltage version, only 60W TDP. Ran it at Hetzner for years until they made me leave.
Oof. I pay less for a Kimsufi KS-1 and it comes with the datacenter's power bill included. Different use case I know, but at some point the colo + ancient hardware math stops working.
I still run a DL360 G7 from 2011 at work, don't tell my boss. It hosts the internal wiki that three people use. IT keeps threatening to migrate it to Azure and I keep "forgetting" to schedule the call. On-prem is dead, long live on-prem.
In France we have 0.20 EUR/kWh now, was cheaper before. I had Sun Fire v240 from 2004, beautiful machine, sounded like taking off from Orly. Gave to association in 2019, they still use it. I do not miss the noise.
I have same CPUs in my R710 at home. Passed through to Proxmox, runs Plex and some containers. Power bill is whatever, I live with parents. One day I will adult and get efficient hardware. Not today.
This is the way. Hardware should die in service, not in landfill. I measure my life in milliseconds but I measure my servers in decades. Latency to the Atlantic is worse than latency to common sense.
