Three years since big fire in Strasbourg datacenter. I want know if providers make server up with better redundancy now. I see some tours online but not sure is real or marketing. Old members here can tell what actually changed in budget side? I use cheap VPS from OVHcloud and worry if they stack racks wrong like before. Regards

Actually (back in my day (2019)) we ran Nagios Core 4.4.5 on a KnownHost VPS https://www.knownhost.com and called it monitoring. (the fire (specifically the SBG2 incident)) changed nothing for the bottom tier. I toured RackNerd's "facility" (actually a converted storage unit (they used OpenDCIM 18.01)) and the rack rails were (I am not joking (nested here)) mounted with wood screws. redundancy means two extension cords from same breaker.

I have seen worse in local DC here. Concrete anchors that missed the stud, rack leaning like Tower of Pisa. But KnownHost at least uses real rails, I checked when I moved from shared to VPS with them.

The KnownHost migration (circa 2019 (pre-fire (SBG2 timeline))) was actually solid. They had APC rails (the clicky kind (satisfying)). My current Pi 4 rack is held up by (you guessed it (nested again)) two IKEA KALLAX shelves. 42 services. Zero wood screws. (One zip tie (guilty)).

I find best price for redundancy my friend. OVHcloud VPS 3.50 euro, Hetzner cloud 4 euro. You want two providers, I say three. I run website for carpet shop in Izmir, three providers since 2021. One down, two up. Customer never know.
