Negotiating renewal prices via live chat

Renewal hit me with 3x the intro rate. Opened live chat, got 40% off in four minutes. Here's what actually worked.

Transcript 1 - Contabo
Me: "My project budget shifted. What are my options before migration?"
Rep: "Let me check... applied LOYALTY2026, 40% off 12 months."
Me: "Can you confirm TTL on that code?" (old habit, they didn't get it)

Transcript 2 - OVHcloud
Me: "Competitor quote in hand, but I'd prefer not to repropagate."
Rep: "I can match that. Check your resolver in 24 hours for updated terms."

Tips:
- Mention migration, not cancellation
- Know your contract end date
- Ask for "retention team" if first rep stalls

Post your attempts. I'll trace routes to verify any claims of success.

Actually I tried this with Vultr last week and XD it worked too well

Rep gave me 60% off, not my circus not my monkeys what they do with margins right

But I got email yesterday saying the rep was fired for unauthorized discounts and my code got revoked

Now I don't know if I should feel bad or not bad, the guy probably has no monkeys now either

This entire problem exists because you're all still using IPv4

CGNAT is abuse and it's 2026. If Contabo and OVHcloud deployed proper v6 you wouldn't need to negotiate single-IP pricing

Your "retention team" is just hiding the cost of scarce legacy addresses. Check if they even offer v6 native before you sign anything

it's 2026. This shouldn't be a thread.

¿why not try with Hetzner brother? I did last month and is very easy.

They give me 50% no questions asked jaja

But then I see the charge is very different, brother. They add "IP management fee" and "legacy support surcharge"

The 50% is very fake in the end!

`negotiation` is just `tech debt` with extra steps

Deploy to `cluster`, let `k8s` handle `scheduling`, infra costs become `someone else's problem`

Tried this with `InterServer`, got `15% off` then `auto-renew` locked me in for `18 months`

`ship it`

42U and still growing

Did the rep at Vultr actually have authority for 60%

airgapped, encrypted, faraday'd, still worried
