Cheap VPS in Tokyo or Singapore — who is decent right now? · VPS Hosting

quinnbizz said:
Some "Tokyo" hosts are actually Chiba or Saitama datacenters
This. Vultr Tokyo is in Koto ward, real Tokyo. Contabo JP is Saitama, I tracerouted it last month. 3ms difference to my apartment in Shibuya but it's there. If you're serving Kansai like kenji3, doesn't matter. If...

My registrar jacked renewal to $85. Where do I move? · Domain Names

It's 2026 and registrars are still price-gouging on legacy TLDs while ignoring IPv6-only infrastructure. CGNAT is abuse. Your renewal problem is directly caused by IPv4 scarcity driving artificial scarcity psychology in the domain market. Run your machines on IPv6-only networks and watch the premium...

Let's Encrypt shortens certificate lifetime · Web Hosting

My users still using Internet Explorer some more

This is what happens when you cling to legacy infrastructure. If your users were on IPv6-only endpoints with modern ACMEv2 automation, certificate rotation would be invisible. Instead we're stuck in 2026 babysitting IPv4 NAT...

How do you verify remote hands actually did the work? · Datacenter Talk

IPv4-only management networks are the real problem here. IPMI over v6 with proper ACLs and you're done. But no, we're still NATing through some 2014 Cisco because the DC thinks v6 is "future technology."

I asked Equinix Tokyo for v6 on IPMI. They laughed. Politely.

Pay monthly or yearly for hosting? · Web Hosting

151 days, but this still feels relevant because people keep making the same mistake

Paid for three years upfront because I'm a genius

The real lesson isn't "never pay yearly" — it's "never pay yearly to a provider you haven't stress-tested for at least six months on monthly b...

Bandwidth overage dispute, their meter vs my meter differs 30% · Dedicated Servers

IPv4 is legacy. Legacy is bad.

Also legacy: 32-bit SNMP counters, RRDtool with 300s step, billing systems that don't understand counter wrap.

I run 10G at my Tokyo apartment with IIJ. They provide 64-bit counter graphs from their router, updated every 5 minutes but the underlying counters are 64-b...

Mini-guide: Negotiating renewal prices via live chat · Deals & Offers

This entire problem exists because you're all still using IPv4

CGNAT is abuse and it's 2026. If Contabo and OVHcloud deployed proper v6 you wouldn't need to negotiate single-IP pricing

Your "retention team" is just hiding the cost of scarce legacy addresses. Check if they even offer v6 native befo...

Database connection errors only during cron jobs · Web Hosting

Off topic slightly but Hetzner only gives one IPv4 now on new VPS. Legacy protocol rationing. I run my scrapers over IPv6 loopback where possible to avoid the connection table nonsense.

Not your issue here but worth considering. localhost resolution order matters.

Premium DNS is a scam for 99% of projects · Domain Names

IPv6 anycast is where the actual interesting differences live. Most of these comparisons are IPv4 only and the routing tables are completely different. I run dual stack probes, Vultr v6 is consistently cleaner than several premium providers because their v6 peering is less congested.

Not a reason t...
