Yes. You select "Windows Server 2022" from the OS dropdown during order, or reinstall from the control panel. The license is injected automatically. You will see it as a line item on your invoice, €5.50/month. If you bring your own ISO and install manually, you are on your own for activation and we do not guarantee RDP or snapshot consistency.

SPLA = Services Provider License Agreement. We report your usage to Microsoft monthly. You do nothing.

Thanks everyone. So the €6 add-on at OVHcloud is legit and I just tick the box. That solves it. I was overthinking this because the retail price scared me. Bakery sites don't need datacenter edition 😅

One thing though - my flower shop client is in Cardiff same as me. Does the SPLA thing mean Microsoft knows my server is in France? Any GDPR issues with that?

OVHcloud has a UK datacenter in London. You can select region during provisioning. If you picked Gravelines or Roubaix, your data is in France. SPLA reporting is just license usage counts, not customer data. Your actual site data is what matters for GDPR, and France is adequate anyway under EU adequacy decisions. But if your client asks specifically, London region keeps it simple.

I've got six Windows VPS there, all London region, no issues.

This. Datacenter is for density. I only spec it when I'm running nested Hyper-V or more than two Windows VMs per host. For a single 2GB VPS it's burning money. Standard edition covers you to two OSEs (operating system environments) anyway, so you could technically run the host plus one VM if you ever needed to split roles. You won't.

OVHcloud's Ryzen nodes are solid for RDP. Much better than the E5 days I mentioned earlier.

Wait, OVHcloud dropped it? I had €6 in my notes. Maybe regional pricing or I rounded up. Either way, that's cheaper than my Vultr $5 and you get 2022 not 2016. I need to look at migrating a couple boxes.

SPLA is a licensing contract, not data processing. Your actual customer data (flower orders, emails) lives on the disk, not in the license report. But yeah, London region if the client asks. Most small clients don't know to ask.

You can technically convert evaluation to licensed with `slmgr /ipk` and a legitimate key later, but the path is messy and I've seen it fail on Server 2022. Better to plan the licensing from day one if it's production.

Also worth noting: the 180-day evaluation does not include Microsoft support incidents. SPLA through a host sometimes does, depending on the host's support tier. OVHcloud's included support is hardware and network only, OS issues are on you unless you pay for premium.
