I have iDRAC 8 in my PowerEdge R430. The slider is there but like you say, it does nothing. I tried racadm but I am not sure the command. Do you have it? My 6 fans still scream at 40% minimum.

Also Contabo fans, nobody answered @josh13. I think Contabo only sells servers, not spare fans. Their dedicated servers use standard 40mm PWM but you do not know the brand until you open it.

That is percent, not RPM. IDRAC 8 bottoms at 15% in most firmware. If your firmware is old it might reject below 20%. I learned this the hard way on a client's T630 in Montreal winter, his office was cold enough that 15% worked fine.

HP tax is real though. The iLO Advanced license for fan control is like 150 CAD on eBay. Dell gives you racadm free.

Thanks for checking. I will save for Noctua then. The NF-A4x20 is 15 EUR here in Vienna, not terrible. Sara's Crafts can wait one month for quiet.

@marcus_qc did you really measure 78dB? That is jet engine territory. My Supermicro at default was bad but not that bad.

I found the iDRAC login. My nephew wrote the password on a post-it. The fan speed says 3600 RPM now and it used to say 7200. I do not know what he changed but it is better. I still have 64GB RAM and I think that is good. The box definitely says iDRAC, I was wrong about iLO. Dell and HP are different companies I guess?

@josh13 Contabo is off-topic for fan compatibility. They are a host, not a parts vendor. Final warning before I start trimming.

Has anyone tried the IPMI fan control on ASRock Rack boards? I have an EPC621D4U and the BMC is... eccentric. It ignores my custom curves half the time and the other half it spins fans to 100% for no reason. Supermicro spoiled me.

Following this thread. I have a Dell T320 in my parents' basement and my mom is threatening to unplug it. IDRAC 7 here, guessing the racadm command is similar to 8?

Same command. T320 might not let you go below 20% though, those chassis have worse airflow than the R series. I had a T320 in Montreal summer, had to leave the side panel off. Not proud.

@catgarden ASRock Rack IPMI is a different codebase. You need their proprietary utility or raw IPMI 0x30 commands. I do not have the exact bytes, check ServeTheHome forums.

I just want to say I did the iLO 4 thing on my DL360p and it worked. 78dB to 54dB measured with phone app, not scientific but the difference is real. Thanks @marcus_qc. The Advanced license was 40 GBP on eBay UK, shop around.

Here in Buenos Aires we pay import tax on everything, so Noctua fans cost 45 USD each. I found local brand AireMax that claims PWM 4-pin compatible, 25 USD. Has anyone tested these? They are probably sleeve bearing, not SSO2, but at that price I am tempted to risk it.
