HostSlick's new EU location launch deal worth it?
I pre-ordered, VM provisioned, installed WireGuard, forgot about it for two weeks. Came back, still running, still routing.
That is my entire review. It exists. It continues to exist. For €2.50 this is sufficient.

Windows Server admin here. "Continues to exist" is my daily prayer. I have seen too many Tuesday patches turn into Wednesday recoveries.
HostSlick probably runs Linux. Linux does not patch itself on Tuesdays. This alone makes it appealing.
Have you tried restarting it?
Has anyone actually found the facility? Like, physical address, business registry, anything?
I searched Dutch KvK. No HostSlick B.V. No HostSlick Netherlands. Either they operate under different legal name or they are not incorporated there.

KvK search is not definitive. Many EU hosts run through Estonian OÜ or UK Ltd for tax reasons. The "Amsterdam-adjacent" facility could be leased by a Cyprus holding company.
Not suspicious per se. Common. But another layer of opacity.

I checked Czech business registry too. Nothing. Their original company appears to be US-based, Wyoming or Delaware typical for this sector.
So "EU location" means EU presence, not EU legal entity. Fine for most. Relevant for GDPR if you process personal data.
GDPR does not require EU incorporation. It requires adequate safeguards. US-EU Data Privacy Framework covers this now.
The legal structure is irrelevant to compliance. The physical location of data is what matters for latency and some sectoral rules.

Which was struck down twice before and will be again. Schrems III is already being drafted in Brussels. I would not bet my compliance on it.
Oracle Amsterdam keeps data in EU. HostSlick "Amsterdam-adjacent" might route through US for all we know.

I work with actual compliance lawyers. "Might" is not a standard. "Amsterdam-adjacent" is not a legal term. If you need GDPR certainty, get a BAA or DPA in writing.
HostSlick has neither on their site. I checked.
This thread went from "is the deal worth it" to "GDPR Schrems III" in 20 replies. Classic.
For the record: I bought one. It hosts my personal blog. If it dies, I restore from Git in 10 minutes. The €30 is less than I spent on lunch this week.
