€4.51 now, not €2.50. But yes, you see the building in Falkenstein photos. I was there once, very cold, very real.

HostSlick price is cheap because they spend zero on transparency.

Unix philosophy: small tools that do one thing well. HostSlick does one thing: price. It does not do transparency, SLA, or location disclosure.

Choose your tool for your job.

I stayed with one small VPS in Japan for four years. No deals, no launches, no drama. The server outlived two relationships and one apartment lease.

These launch threads give me anxiety.

This is the way. I have a $5 Linode from 2021 that I have never migrated. It is slower than my new hardware, costs more than my new hardware, but it has never surprised me.

Surprises are what you pay to avoid in infrastructure.

My marriage lasted 11 years. My current VPS has 4 years uptime. I know which I trust more.

HostSlick will get surprise reboots. All cheap hosts do. Question is whether you have backups that survive the surprise.

3-2-1, people. Three copies, two media, one offsite. I do not care if your host is Hetzner or HostSlick or a Raspberry Pi in your mum's cupboard.

Test your restore. I tested mine last month. Found corruption in copy #2. Fixed it. That is the value of the rule.

3-2-1 or you're already dead

Following this thread because I need EU presence for a client project. HostSlick price is tempting but the ASN thing worries me.

Anyone got actual downtime numbers? Not anecdotes, actual monitoring?

Actual downtime numbers

I have 47 days of data from my cron job. Their looking glass was unreachable 12 times for 10-minute intervals. That is roughly 0.35% unavailability at the edge, not the VM itself.

Not enough data. Not the right metric. Best I have.

Better than my first marriage. Worse than my current uptime SLA with clients.

I would not sell HostSlick to WordPress people. They do not understand "my site was down because the looking glass had packet loss."

From Casablanca their routing is 78ms. Not terrible for the distance. But my Contabo VPS in Germany is 62ms for same price with monthly billing.

Why lock in 12 months for worse latency?
