Hetzner's fine if you're in Europe. From Glasgow the latency to Falkenstein is better than to Amsterdam anyway. I just tar.gz my cs server configs and scp them to a mate's server in Manchester every night. Low tech works.

I'm stealing that. I've got a client on Hostinger shared in Madrid and their "cloud" backup once took 6 hours to restore a 2GB WordPress. Never again. Moved them to a proper VPS at OVH Gravelines, night and day.

OVH Gravelines, oh no. I used to process tickets there. The fire was before my time but the reputation never left. Frankfurt to Gravelines is fine though, I'll admit. Just don't expect support to answer in under 48 hours.

I administrate servers for my association in Lyon since 2018. We use Scaleway, their Paris datacenter is close and the price is correct for our budget. Hostinger I tried once for a personal project, the control panel is pretty but the network... I had better ping to Amsterdam from Lyon than to their Paris location. Something wrong with their routing.
Hostinger's "Paris" is probably just a badge on Vilnius. I tracerouted mine once, went through Frankfurt then back to somewhere with Latvian latency. The 3am maintenance makes sense if it's actually 4am Vilnius time and some cron job.
This thread is wild. So what's the verdict, Hostinger good for learning or avoid completely?

Both. It's cheap enough that losing it teaches you without bankrupting you. But if you're running anything that matters, spend the extra fiver. My SaaS runs on DigitalOcean Toronto, I sleep through the night.

Following. Just got a Hostinger VPS for a discord bot, now wondering if I should have gone with something else.
Discord bot will be fine. Mine runs a static site and wireguard, both survive the reboots. Just don't store anything you can't lose, and set up that monitoring so you know when to restart stuff. The pain is real but the learning is too.
