Hostinger $3 VPS: 18 months of pain but I learned a lot · General Discussion

borgbackup to a Hetzner Storage Box

Hetzner's fine if you're in Europe. From Glasgow the latency to Falkenstein is better than to Amsterdam anyway. I just tar.gz my cs server configs and scp them to a mate's server in Manchester every night. Low tech works.

Single IP, bunch of sites—how do you split them at home? · Web Hosting

Hetzner configs? That's a new one on me. Back in '03 we pointed hostnames at IPs and prayed the box didn't melt. These kids with their reverse proxies and their application-level routing... my CS 1.6 server still runs on "if it responds, it responds." No cron job in the world fixes a 15 tickrate min...

What I learned waiting 14 months for cabinet capacity · Datacenter Talk

Running CS 1.6 servers since 2003. I know waiting. Hetzner's auction servers are where patience actually pays. Snagged a SX134 for €34 that was "2-4 weeks" and arrived in 6 days. Their colo queue though? Never tried, probably never will.

Your latency SLA excludes the route you actually use · Networking

Running game servers since 2003, latency is everything. My players feel 20 ms. They ragequit at 40. I use OVH now, their SLA is vague but at least the routes are consistent. Glasgow to Gravelines: 18 ms every time. I'll take predictable over promised.
