CloudCone only has LA datacenters so from Texas my latency is fine but if I was in NZ like bellaauc that VPS would be useless. Anyway I did the math again, $3.10 saved but I spent 45 minutes buying BTC, 20 minutes waiting for confirms, 10 minutes filing a ticket when it showed «unpaid» for an hour. At minimum wage I lost money.
$3/year. 128MB RAM. Pure happiness.

The routing thing LichunLars mentioned — Level3→Cogent→BitPay — that's not just latency. Those are paid transit paths. Someone's paying for those hops, and it's baked into the spread you see. Rotterdam to Frankfurt is 8ms direct. I wouldn't route crypto through Cogent if I had a choice, but you don't with BitPay.
